BEHIND THE MUSIC OF DR. SKYE MATTHEW HART
Personal Profile
A versatile musician with love for both solo repertoire and church music, Skye Hart has performed throughout the U.S., Europe and Mexico. He is currently Director of Music and Liturgy at St. Maria Goretti Church in Scottsdale, Arizona, and director of the Gregorian Schola at All Saints Newman Centerat Arizona State University. He has performed large scale works for choir and organ with a number of
ensembles and has served as accompanist for international choir tours. Dr. Hart is also a classically
trained singer and is featured on the album, The First Printed Organ Music, on the Gothic label. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ performance from Arizona State University, and undergraduate degrees in music and French from Lyon College. He studied organ under Kimberly Marshall and Russell Stinson, with additional studies with Siegbert Rampe, Serge Schoonbroodt and
Sophie-Véronique Cauchefer-Choplin (improvisation).
Dr. Hart served as Faculty Associate in organ at Arizona State University, and recently served as West
Regional Councilor for the American Guild of Organists. He is committed to helping improve the world
through music, teaching, and exchanging ideas in a meaningful way that helps others feel valued and
engaged. As Dean of the Central Arizona AGO, he championed the Chapter scholarship program, which
provides musical instruction to gifted young musicians at no cost to them; he also helped organize a
residential summer camp for young organists (POE) and hosted summer camps for young string players
for ten seasons. As a solo organist, Dr. Hart was a semi-finalist in the International Organ Competition
Agati-Tronci in Pistoia, Italy (2008), and semi- finalist in the National Competition in Organ
Improvisation, Montréal, Québec (2017).
As a teacher, Dr. Hart is known for his engaging style and
ability to bring out the best others. He has given workshops on improvisation and service playing,
including, more recently, the AGO West Regional Convention in Orange County, California. Dr. Hart
enjoys teaching his studio of private students, writing, traveling, working on foreign language skills, and
connecting with others. He is also a mid-century modern art fanatic, and a penguin enthusiast.
